This position is responsible for the successful management and implementation of both internal/external communication strategies. This position manages assigned projects, working collaboratively with other team members, and assists in the execution of marketing and communication plans to support the achievement of business goals. This role works directly with all departments to develop the necessary strategies and tactics supporting marketing and communication plans, and also manages community specific events, provides content/resource support for marketing and communication initiatives for assigned programs, by performing the following tasks either personally or through subordinate staff as well as demonstrating GILA WAY.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promotes and provides excellent guest service experiences to both internal and external guests. 
  • Drives traffic to all three properties through traditional and disruptive PR campaigns.
  • Continue to strengthen reputation as a premier gaming and hospitality enterprise
  • Lead the industry in philanthropy through Gila River Cares initiatives
  • Oversee communication materials such as employee newsletters, press releases, and similar marketing materials in order to promote company 's promotions, events and services. 
  • Represents the enterprise at civic and community functions. Attends meetings within the Gila River Indian Community (GRIC) as required. Seeks methods for community involvement, promoting the enterprise and creates public awareness.
  • Primary point of contact for all media inquiries and requests.
  • Guarantee all content is publication ready.  
  • Works directly with the representatives for GRIC on current issues, concerns and events.
  • Leverages existing and new media relationships to land prominent non paid placements.
  • Manages company interactions with the news media in keeping with media policy, preparing senior leadership and others for media.
  • Plan, edits and writes content for a variety of internal communication mediums, such as employee intranet, or monthly newsletter.  
  • Develops and implements news releases, articles, bulletins, and other communication media scripts.
  • Maintains liaisons with the news media, organizes press conferences, and conducts interviews as requested.
  • Responsible for mentoring and developing Pathways Mentorship Program participants to successfully transition to management level positions. 
  • Maintains a dependable work attendance record with extremely infrequent absences and/or lateness. 
  • Performs other special projects and duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises multiple employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. 

Skills/ Requirements 

  • High School or Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing or Communications or related field preferred.
  • Five (5) years of experience in event planning, media relations, project management, and marketing and or promotions field preferably within a casino/gaming environment.
  • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible management experience in marketing related roles, preferably within a casino gaming environment.
  • Must have strong leadership, organizational, communication, human relations, and decision making skills. 
  • Must have strong public speaking skills.
  • Experience in preparing and reviewing media kits.
  • Broad Knowledge of the Gila River Indian Community.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Gaming Industry
  • Ability to perform the GILA WAY which is as follows: Greet our guest, Interact positively with our guest, Listen actively to our guests, Appreciate our guest.
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills, strong telephone etiquette a self-starter with the ability to multitask, follow-up and complete tasks in a timely manner with minimum supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol test and agree to maintain a Drug-Free Workplace as a condition of employment.
  • Must pass a full background check to be certified/licensed prior to employment. 
  • Must be able to work in a smoking environment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as well as to gain the cooperation of guests, employees, and fellow team members.
  • This position must have or an ability to acquire within one year, an in-depth-knowledge and thorough understanding of Enterprise Policies and Procedures, governmental regulations, and technical rules relevant to their responsibilities. 

Important Notes

As a condition of employment, all new hires must pass the following:
